Dedicated biosafety level 3 (BSL-3/P-3) mycobacteriology laboratory providing high quality microbiology research and diagnostic services
- Offers services in testing efficacy of novel drugs in the field of infectious diseases, particularly
tuberculosis (TB). - Operates in accordance with the international ethical and scientific quality standard of Good
Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP). - SANAS accredited under the ISO15189 standard, facility accreditation number: M0734.
Mycobacterial Quantification:
- Sputum smear microscopy.
- Auramine-O and Ziehl-Neelsen.
- Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube – MGIT (liquid culture).
- Colony forming units (solid culture – Middlebrook 7H11 selective agar).
Drug Sensitivity Testing:
- Molecular testing:
- GeneXpert MTB/RIF Ultra and MTB/XDR.
- HAIN line probe assays.
- Phenotypic Drug Susceptibility Testing (DST) of anti-tuberculosis drugs (MGIT DST).
- Minimum inhibitory concentration testing (MIC; EUCAST 2020).
